Arriving at Banana's (our hotel)
Separated from mainland Puerto Rico, Vieques together with Culebra are often referred to colloquially as the Spanish Virgin Islands. The island was reclaimed from the US Navy in 2003 after more than 50 years of military occupation.
Upon arriving at the tiny airport (Aeropuerto de Vieques), we took a públicos (grouped taxi) to Esperanza, a town at the south shore of Vieques. At there we found our hotel - Banana's.
What a pity that the roof-top bar was closed at the moment.

Around 11:00, the restaurant was not yet open for business

A corridor leading to our room

There are many Puerto Rican masks hanging on the walls.

Marvellous view outside the hotel. People can just climb down the stairs and swim

In the afternoon, we took a snorkel trip to the outlying island (Cayo Afuera)

In the coming two days, we spent most of the time with activities along this main road (Calle Flamboyán) and had no time to visit some other alleys at the back. There are pubs, eateries, restaurants, disco, small hotel/hostels, etc. along the road. Really crowded after sunset.
There is a small museum inside the blue gate.

It was one of the dogs we met as we walked to a convenient store for grocery. It was very friendly to wave its tail and turn rounds to cheer us.
