17.4.2008 - reflection after the trip

Relieve

It was really a hardship to me but I found that I could live on with minimum supplies.

Discovery

I knew that Bulgarian was the only nation with Nod = No and Head-shake  = Yes but I could not get use to it.  Every time I asked a question, I always asked twice and supplemented with "Da ?"

Tolerance

Though I hate smoking, I became a passive smoker in the trip as the people here are heavy smoker, no matter how old he/she is.

God's Comfort & Protection

After completing the Blog, I really found that God had granted me great comfort and protection even though I had so many hard times.  When I stepped into danger, He guided me through.  When I lost my direction, He sent angels around me to show me the way.  He led me to all the sights that I've planned in such a tight schedule.  Thanks for everything.

15.4.2008 - my way home

13:30

Boarding on the Austrian Airline craft to Vienna.  The plane behind seemed an amy freight.

It's really a small airport.

Everything went on well and I got to Vienna and I could finally get back my lost luggage.  However, it's found that the flight to Heathrow would be delayed for half an hour.

20:00

After boarding the plane, I took a nap.  When I woke up, the plane was still on the ground.  That meant the flight would delay for at least an hour.

Before landing at Heathrow, a crew approached me to urge me and other guests to rush to the connected flight for Hong Kong.  So I picked up all my stuff after taxi to the gate.  I stood in front of the plane door to wait for it opened and dashed out immediately.  A staff at the gate registered my name without telling where to go.  I tried to go for the boarding gate myself but was called back.

22:30

When all the guests to HK had been collected, the staff led us the way to the boarding gate.  Once again, we needed to pass through the passport control.  After two of us (the last two came out from the flight) passed through, the system stopped operating.  It was explained that the connected flight had extended the waiting time for 10 minutes and it's decided not to wait for us as longer.  The boarding gate closed and the system should be stopped automatically.

Desperately, I could not think of anything to do or respond.  The whole group, around 30 of us was led to the re-booking counter.  I was the last one to be served.  Just noticed that the operator passed me a pile of tickets, like hotel voucher, 2-way airport express / hotel linking bus.  Just a while, she told her supervisor that the transferred flight, Australian Airline was full.  I really scared, when will I be landed at HK ?!  Fortunately, there was another flight CX back to HK at 12:00 tomorrow.

I was really frustrated and exhausted that I climbed on the bus and arrived at Renaissance Hotel (4-star).  When I laid down on the bed, I could not really sleep.  Many thoughts pop up, like - where is my luggage ?  Could I get back to HK in time for work ?  ....

Next day, I got up very early and had a fabulous buffet breakfast.  After that I went to Terminal 5 again to check for my luggage.  The BA staff told me that there's no need to collect my luggage, it would be collected when I arrived at HK.  Well, let's wait and see.

Then, I travelled on the airport express (train) to Terminal 4 and checked in at CX counter.  When I waited at the boarding gate, I just spotted that a A380 was boarding at the adjacent gate.  This was the first one serving Singapore Airline.

As I whole, I have visited Heathrow Terminal 1, 2, 4 and 5 in this trip.

15.4.2008 - leaving Sarajevo

10:00

Before leaving Sarajevo, I visited the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.  At there, it's impressing to know their daily life during their recent war in 1993.

12:00

Tunnel of Hope - near the airport

Built under the runway of Sarajevo Airport in 1992, the Tunnel of Hope was the city's only connection with the outside world during the 4 years of siege.  Only a portion of it remains open today.

14.3.2008 - Sarajevo at night

20:00

Having a nice dinner at Ilidza, I take the #3 tram back to the city centre, and I could take some night shots.

Cathedral of Jesus' Sacred Heart - neo-gothic style - was built in 1889

Sarajevo bridges

The oldest bridge, Kozja cuprija, dated back to when the city itself was founded.

14.3.2008 - Sarajevo (Vrelo Bosne)

16:00

Vrelo Bosne is one of the strongest water springs in BiH.  It is surrounded by a lovely park.  A 3km long tree lined walkway connects Vrelo Bosne to Ilidza that has been known for its thermal springs since the Roman times.

14.4.2008 - Sarajevo

10:00

On the second day, I went to Trebevic according to the visitor guide to tourist.

At there, I could have a grand view oversee the whole Sarajevo.  The Chinese name of the city - 薩拉熱窩 describes the landscape.  The city is surrounded by mountains.

I took a taxi but the taxi driver was very nervous.  It took him quite a while to look for a number, made phone call and handed over the cell phone to me asking me to talk to the other side.  I then realized that there was no restaurant or anything at the hill top.  I could only ask him to drop me off when there was any viewing spot that I could have a look of the whole city.

The trip cost nearly all my cash in Sarajevo currency (~HKD120).  After that, I needed to walk all the way down the hill.  Actually, a nice driver offered me a lift back to the city but I turned down his offer.  I'd rather like to have a walk around before going back to the city.

Tall or modern buildings could only be found at the left-hand side of the picture.

The summer submit.  This is the picture as printed on the visitor guide that I thought it's just like the peak at Hong Kong.  On the contrary, I could rarely find a visitor there.

As it was the frotline at war and many ruins would still be seen.

Warning sign cold be seen as there were still mines yet to be uncovered.

It was a really nice place to live.  You could see cottages with herding farms, snowing mountains at the far side.

I needed to find my way back to the city centre.  Thanks the help of the locals pointed me the way, though they did not speak English.  After long walks,  I finally caught this bus and got to another torist spot at Ilidza.
