City Tour 21 April 2019

The Ascension Cathedral (KazakhВознесенск кафедралы шіркеуіVoznesensk kafedraly shirkeýi), also known as Zenkov Cathedral, is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located in Panfilov Park in AlmatyKazakhstan. Completed in 1907, the cathedral is made out of wood but without nails. Its height is 56 meters tall, and is claimed to be the second tallest wooden building in the world.

However, it was under maintenance and visit not allowed.

It's Easter Sunday and many believers came and bought flowers for receiving blessings.

A bishop sprinkled "holy water" to the flowers in believers' hands or their bodies if requested

The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen is a major park in Almaty, Kazakhstan.  The park is located in east-central Almaty in the area surrounding Zenkov Cathedral.  It is dedicated to and named after the Panfilov Heroes, 28 soldiers of an Almaty infantry unit who died fighting Nazi German invaders outside of Moscow in World War II.  The group takes its name from Ivan Panfilov, the General commanding the 316th division which, in spite of heavy casualties, believed at that time managed to significantly delay the Germans' advance on the capital, buying time for the defenders of the city.  An eternal flame commemorating the fallen of the World War II and the Great Patriotic War burns in front of the giant black monument of soldiers from all 15 Soviet republics.

The other side is the Military History Museum

Then we went to Small Supermarket for our last buy.  Last stop is Arasan Wellness and Spa.  There are many sauna rooms, Finnish, Russian, Turkish, etc. style.  a swimming pool (with cold water), a few bathing areas, resting area...

We had a professional message, but it charged quite high.  We spent ~HK$300 each here for 2 hours.
