Charyn Canyon 18 April 2019

Charyn Canyon reaches depths of up to 300 meters and it is about 12 million years old.  The canyon extends 154 km in length and 20-80 m wide.  Charyn National Park is one of the newest, created in 2004.

The oldest, darkest layers at the bottom of the canyons are volcanic lava rocks, on top of which debris slowly accumulated to form natural sculptures.

It's told that the road down into the canyon is not too difficult.  I assumed it's at the Red Canyon or the Valley of Castles.  We were not led to this but to the other side of the canyon.

Our shots could not show one-tenth of the natural beauty of the canyon.  You may refer to the  pictures from others -
