Big Almaty Lake 22 April 2019

We had received Vlad's message that he would not come to us for the Big Almaty Lake half day tour the next morning.  Instead Azamat would be our guide.

This was the last day we stayed in Almaty, we packed all our stuff and ready for deposit at the concierge.  Azamat called at around 8:45 am reminding us to bring thick clothes for the cold weather.  I then took out fleece jacket and re-pack my stuff.

This day, the weather was misty.   But as we traveled south and ascent into the mountains, the mist/fog become heavier.  We were up to 2000 meters above sea level.

Even there was snow covered the roadside.

There was snow rain when we got out of the van.

The lake was just over there but hidden by the mist.  Azamat kept on explaining the Kazakh history but we were too cold and needed to get back into the van to keep ourselves warm and dry.

I thought we were about to go and Azamat came and asked us to get off the van as the mist/fog began to cast away.  The lake with a frozen surface came into the scene

We then needed to cross a checkpoint to visit the observatory

However, it was reported the road was blocked by fallen rocks and we needed to turn back.

Last sight of the lake on our way back

Half-way down

Trace of landslide

Yurt along our way downhill
