8 Jan 2010 Lake St. Clare

Lake St. Clare

It is the end-point of the Overland Track, starting from the Cradle Mountain, taking 6 days 5 nights on the mountain.  Alternately, we drove and reached this end, and met many exhausted people achiveing their great walk.

We needed to check in first before going for some walks.  The Lodge is just next to the Visitor Centre.  Platypus is the symbol of this area.

We planned our route to climb Mt. Rufus.  However, we were told that part of the track was blocked and under restruction and we could not reach the submit.  Further, as we started our walk late, we were warned to turn back by others to make sure we could be safe back home before dark.

Before seeing these wooden signs, there were only some small red/yellow arrows painted on the tree trunks.  Once, we missed the arrow and lost our direction.  Luckily, there was a girl passed by.  We tried to call her but she did not stop.  We turned back and followed her steps and back to the right track :.)

It began to drizzle.  I feared not able to finish the walk before sun set and tried to speed up.

An ugly tree.  Can you notice an arrow on her trunk?

Shadow Lake and we really missed the Forgotten Lake just next to it

There were many tall trees fallen down.  The trunk was chopped to make a way for the trail walkers.

Quite disappointed that there were not many to see along the way.  We got exhausted as we completed the 4-hour track in 3 hours!
