Flea Market (Open-air)
During the festival and on Sunday, there was flea market along Via Roma, at Marina Disrtrict and Nora (Festa di Sant'Efisio).
There are new wooden kitchen tools, such as spoons and scrapers, plate racks, and furniture knobs. There are 2 or 3 stalls which sell old household linen; pillowcases, tablecloths, women’s’ blouses and babies' clothes made of cotton or linen, hand-embroidered, or with delicate lace inserts and borders, all carefully cleaned and mended (prices ranged from about 50 cents to $3 a piece). Some antique furniture and old farming or fishing tackle. Prices for most things were low; there were many stalls with everything priced at 50 cents. Large, busy, well laid out, with new stalls mainly separate from used goods and a useful scattering of food and drink stalls, including local specialities such as cheeses and pastries.
I bought cheese and pastries. One special item I bought was honey of Strawberry Tree honey (Miele di Corbezzolo). The honey is famous of its anti-asthmatic properties, but with unusual bitter aftertaste that makes it different and is ppreciated by those who prefer the flavors.
The strawberry is of different type as we get used to.
